New Shanghai Queens Plaza is located in Brisbane’s CBD Queen Street Mall. It offers a variety of authentic Chinese cuisine from the Shanghai region. From signature Xiao Long Bao, pan fried pork buns, dumplings and dim sum to delicious Shanghai braised pork belly, rainbow beef, salt and pepper prawns and stir fried noodles. New Shanghai’s genuine recipes have been passed down from generation to generation and use the best local produce and ingredients to recreate popular Shanghainese dishes.
With a traditional Shanghainese 1930s street-style setting, the dining atmosphere is causal, modern and friendly. Food, wine and beverage menus are well priced making it very affordable to dine with friends, family and corporate gatherings.

The food here is a over priced for the quality. The Xiaolongbao is always nice here. We tried the braised beef noodle soup it was yummy but nothing to rave about. The braised lamb was a big let down, it was full of green veggies at the bottom so the actual amount of lamb was not much at all. It was smothered in a gravy that was supper sugary! The service is not that friendly it’s rush in rush out 🙁 they don’t talk to much and didn’t want to give recommendations when I asked about the soups 🙁

Although the food didn’t completely amaze me, it was undeniably good. One aspect that stood out during my visit was that the dumplings are made to order and even the dough is house-made. The flavors were well-balanced, and the dishes were prepared with skill. While I didn’t encounter any standout dishes that left a lasting impression, I still enjoyed the meal and appreciated the quality ingredients and attention to detail.

I love their dumplings and tried the xiao long bao and the lamb dumplings. Both are very juicy and was made fresh onsite. The pancake scallions are very dry to my liking, I’ve tried in other Chinese restaurant and in this restaurant it’s not my favourite. We also ordered the Chinese noodles in xo sauce and it is just okay and we find it very fishy. The drinks are my faves here however they arrived so late that we’ve already finished out food before it turns up. Also, the place stinks of fish. We were seating near the door and the odour is just off putting while you’re eating. I’ll come back for the dumplings and the drinks again.

We ordered some take away expecting something better but to be honest we ended up disappointed hoping for better. The soups were good but nothing outstanding. The spring onion pancakes were very oily but the fried salt and pepper calamari were the worse since as a dish it seemed very small for a +$20 plate (in the picture).

Today, we have Lunch at this restaurant (31/7/2023), the guy who stands at the counter at 2:00pm has unrespect behaviour. We have ordered some food and paid for it already, then, we want to add some drinks and he said we cannot do it? Is it hard to add another order, we never come back^^
