I recently had the pleasure of visiting an amazing historical pub that left me feeling like I had stepped back in time. This pub had it all: a museum-like room upstairs, a cozy beer backyard, and some of the most delicious local beer I’ve ever tasted.

Better food than you’d expect for a place that probably gets customers just from its oldest licenced pub in Australia title.

Great to finally visit Aus Oldest Pub (oldest continually-licensed). Fantastic assortment of memorabilia, old decorations & interesting artwork – wonderful to browse. Multiple Stout Beers on tap, good range in general, various bars catering for busier times / functions, nice-looking fire places for colder times. Great service with nice food reasonably-priced.

Work dinner saw us at the Hope & Anchor. Right away, the warm from the numerous open fires and dim lighting felt warm and cosy. Tonight, I felt like veggies, so I ordered the beef cheek Wellington with mash, brocolini, and a jus. The meat was tender, the mash creamy, just what I felt like. The pastry was delicious. Would recommend.

I just love old places and architecture and the Hope and Anchor is said to be the oldest continuously operating pub and restaurant in Australia. Two floors of dining and drinks with the upper level serving as a museum/dining area. Staff was very friendly and attentive serving great drinks.

What a fantastic place. The history alone is worth the visit, but the wonderful service and historical knowledge of Shannon and team made it even more special. We didn’t have a booking, however they were able to accommodate us in one of the many dining areas. Whilst waiting for our food we were able to look around and view many of the historical artefacts on display.
