We went for a motorbike ride and planned to have coffee at the Black Ant. We arrived and ordered coffee. Not greeted very nice upon ordering. Overlooked that and sat down. Always a beautiful place in the country and a lovely spot to stop. I thought I’d look at the menu. The lady behind the counter said oh you’re looking for future reference as we’re not cooking today. No explanation why as there were chefs in the kitchen.

We waited for 40 mins for our food. The so called risotto with the Barramundi was apalling, the fish was certainly not fresh. The meat from the Sunday lunch special was tough as ol boots. When we informed them at the checkout all we got was a lukewarm apology with * we’re very busy n kitchen was backed up ”

Very disappointing. I had my wedding there in April and although it was amazing, I have been left with a bad taste in my mouth by the owner and management. The lack of communication was appalling, taking up to 4 weeks to reply to my emails in regards to important information about the day. The tab was started so early that is had almost run out by the time we got back to the reception. Despite family members stating it wasn’t to start till we got back, they responded rudely saying they had written instruction from myself. Of which I have no recollection and can not find any emails saying so. There was clearly an issue with the grey water system as the smell of sewage was awful, if you’re going to hold events, at least have the capacity to do so. They also ran out of great northern, rum and wild turkey within an hour. When questioned as to why they didn’t have any more, they said they had a function the night before. Which is hardly an excuse. The following day when we went to collect our decorations, Jodie was unbelievably rude and unkind. The food was fantastic but I would not recommend this place for a wedding.

At our wedding, Pat & I chose to have a grazing table for our guests after our ceremony and a buffet style dinner for our reception meal. All of our catering was done through Black Ant Gourmet and we cannot recommend them enough!

Great place for coffee, cakes, focaccia, pub type meals, ice creams ,etc etc. The place to be for Sunday lunch after the market. In case the pizza van has run out over at the hotel.
