Look, I’m hesitant about most things northern beaches related purely because it’s a BIG effort to get there from south west Sydney and so hopes are always set very high. St Alma delivered! Not only in terms of the food but the fun and friendly service and casual vibes where everyone was made to feel comfortable.

Really enjoyed my experience at St Alma. The tacos were pretty good and had a lot of flavour. The empanadas were delicious but needed more salt. The ceviche and plantain chips was excellent but for the price charged, didn’t make it worth it. The guacamole and chips was excellent but contained a little bit too much oil. Service was good and cocktails were great. Besides a few little areas to improve, I still really enjoyed my meal and would return.

St Alma in Freshwater is one restaurant where you should not offer to be the designated driver. The booze list, kicking off with a good range of margaritas, is well chosen, well communicated and well-serviced across wine, beer, cocktails, and spirits. Arriving to a charming hand-written card offering the first round on the house, we got into the spirit of this funky, retro-styled room with a spicy mango margarita ($20) offering good ancho chilli bite and a zesty jalapeño margarita ($19). It was hard to pick a favourite from the pair. Later we got cosy with an Espadin mezcal flight ($45) showing off four exemplars of the most commonly sourced sky-high agave varietal for mezcal. Made in a copper still in the traditional way, the Siete Misterios Doba-Yej was my favourite, with a locally-brewed Freshwater Secrets hazy pale ($11) as a chaser.

This was our 3rd time here and since the new chef has come on board the food is incredible. The tuna crudo, burratta, fish tacos and chicken were highlights. The bar man Sam was so attentive and gave such great advice on which drinks to try. All the margaritas were great!

The decor is great. Food is priced well and delicious. Margaritas well made. Staff friendly. Not good that we were given the hint to leave in ten minutes because they needed the table when we had not yet received our mains. Still, I would recommend a visit.

The most incredible Mexican restaurant I have ever been to! I have been multiple times and traveled out of the area to dine here and have since moved into the area and this is now my regular restaurant of choice. The food is AMAZING, the staff are super friendly and make you feel so apart of the experience – plus you just have to try the cocktails!!!!!

A lovely dinner. Fantastic service and lovely atmosphere and design of the restaurant. The food is $$$ range but well worth the price tag, food also same super promptly! Would come back and would recommend to others
