Lovat has a curious location wedged into a tight corner at the start of the Newport shops, which due to traffic noise doesn’t really lend itself to views or outside dining.

I had dinner with my boys to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The food was amazing and delicious. My 8 year old son, finished 2 skewers for his entree. My husband loves the Duck. My favourite was the kingfish. We had such a great night. Service from Jasper, Tasha and Matthew was 10/10.

Exceptional service at Lovat last night. I wasn’t going to say anything but the waitress noticed my steak wasn’t cooked the way I had ordered and offered to replace the dish straight away. Very attentive and friendly service throughout the meal and the steak was removed from the bill at the end, which was nice and unexpected. Food brilliant and great heated outdoor area.

Service was good, however the food could’ve been better. Zucchini flowers were a bit oily however were substantial in size so good value here. The kingfish was great. The gnocchi was a little underwhelming and didn’t really have much of a flavour or sauce, so was quite bland and it was a very small serving. The veggies were undercooked so were on the hard side. The broccolini was nice, the dressing was very different in a good way which was a nice surprise. The duck Ragu was quite a small serving and it was dry and there was no where near enough sauce to cover the pasta.

We had a wonderful dinner here last night. Food was great and the staff were so friendly and helpful. It’s a nice relaxed atmosphere but still very elegant. Would certainly recommend.

Moderately pricey but fantastic value. We had 3 entrees, 3 mains and 2 sides, all of which were exceptional and faultless, as was the service. A rare experience worth every cent.
