Memory Tongue Hotpot Buffet 2000

Social Profile:

In 1908, in Chongqing, China, a secret soup recipe led to the beginning of the unique Chinese hotpot. The secret recipe combines more than a dozen of ingredients and spices, creating the perfect hotpot broth: slightly numbing, moderately spicy, and easily digestible, easy on the stomach. Fast forward to 2016, with the help of a third generation descendant of the secret recipe holder, the Memory Tongue Hotpot Restaurant was established. Owned and managed by LYW Catering, a company with over 20 years experience in the catering industry. Memory Tongue Hotpot has two locations: Sydney CBD and Chatswood.

Easygoing Chinese restaurant specialising in traditional hotpots with dipping sauces.

They just reopened the store and we used the Liven promo. The place wasn’t crowded. Probably because many weren’t aware that they have reopened. There wasn’t many staff working too.

Favourite AYCE Hotpot spot in Sydney CBD – good selection of food, also got salmon sashimi, good service. Would recommend.

We dined in during the pandemic. I appreciate they had the check in barcode scan, so we could enter our details due to the covid safe procedure, but they didn’t check if every single person checked in, so if people wanted to skip that process, they could have. My suggestion is to have someone monitor all the people that enter the door!!

Memory Tongue is a first-floor Chongqing hot pot restaurant that popped up in this location during 2017; expanding to a second restaurant in the Chatswood Interchange in 2018. Think of the Chongqing hot pot as the restaurant version of the roadside malatang – both are numbing and spicy (má là).

The non-spicy stocks are a bit bland but the spicy stock is much better. The sauce selection is limited and the service was slow. The dining spaces were cramped with limited ventilation so it got really hot. The ingredients are quite fresh though and is of good quality. The serving sizes are decent as well. Overall a good filling dinner. Roughly 50 bucks a head.

I’ve been to this hotpot place a few times. They reallt try to do their best to give customers a good dining experience. Prices are acceptable (a bit experience for hot pot), however meat and vegies are very fresh. Menu has pictures, good for english readers. If you scan them on wechat, you can become a VIP, and get VIP prices on selected dishes(up to 20%). Get to choose small pot(1 pot per persin) and big pot(sharing), very clean. Gotta try their universal ball! (Picture attached)

Good Chinese Hotpot Restaurant. Used to be super busy when they first opened, but the queue is getting quite manageable nowadays. Lots of selection of ingredients and it was fresh. They also do some cooked dishes. Definitely satisfied with our visit.

I booked a table for 5:30pm. At 5:20pm, I got a call asking if I was coming, I was confused and asked if my booking was for 5:30pm and they said yes. I was walking to the restaurant and was about to walk upstairs to the restaurant when I received another call at 5:28pm asking where I was, and if I didn’t come my table would be given away. I don’t understand what the rush was because there were a few free tables and I wasn’t even late. I can show the phone logs if they say otherwise. One positive is that the table staff were nice. The food was ok, there was a big delay between ordering the meat and when it was delivered to the table. But the buffet area was disgusting. The tongs were placed in a bucket on the floor, with lots of people walking around it. All the plates and bowls were drenched in dish water, I had to wipe every thing down before I used it. Very unhygienic, will not be surprised if I get food poisoning. Will not be returning.

Lovely place where you can get your own pot and choose your favourite broth instead of having to share with the group. Creative and at times hilarious presentation, staff is very attentive. Best to make reservations if dining after 6pm.
