Bergerac, one of Melbourne’s early French restaurants from the 80s has recently found a new home at the iconic Tolarno Hotel in St Kilda. The restaurant is located where Tolarno Bistro used to be back in 1964, run by the famous contemporary artist Mirka Mora and her husband. The Heritage Listed murals and wall sculptures created by Mirka Mora are featured around the building and add to the restaurants unique charm.

An exceptional night out was had at this wonderful restaurant. The staff were welcoming and a delight to chat with, and the french food was incredible. We ordered the french onion soup, the escargot, the crab ravioli and the steak eye fillet. All cooked to perfection. We then ordered a Bombe Alaska which was presented with much fanfare. The lovely birthday candle presented on the creme caramel was also a highlight of the evening. It showed just how thoughtful the staff were to make the evening even more memorable. We will definitely return.

The food and service was excellent. I’m usually not the biggest fan of escargot but this was cooked to perfection. Would also highly recommend the steak with blue cheese sauce and duck confit, which were delicious.

Nice traditional French food. My favourite is the seafood bouillabaisse, creme brûlée and seared scollop.

A perfect restaurant for a nice occasion. Romantic ambiance with q French inspired ambiance. Trying the escargots are a must! My favourite dish was the Ravioli de Crabe, absolutely delicious! The wines here are a real highlight. A big selection to choose from, with something perfect to accompany each dish. The staff here are very professional, polite and create such a lovely dining experience. Don’t go pass the desserts either! They are just to gorgeously presented.
