We dined at the Astor Grill and our experience was perfection. From the moment we entered the restaurant we were warmly greeted and had our coats taken and hung up. We were then escorted to our window table. The atmosphere of the venue was really lovely with a fine dining ambience, matched by wonderful customer service. On a cool evening, the restaurant was warm, with tasteful decorating and a classic fine dining charm that was warm and inviting.

We had a lovely dinner to celebrate our July birthdays. The service from Jeremy was excellent who was very down to earth, friendly and willing to go the extra mile to make some classic cocktails not on the sisal menu. Would recommend the steak- all 4 of us agreed these were the highlight of the menu as well as the whiskey Icecream.

Wow oh wow!! Highly recommend this place! My husband had the lamb, and I had the scallops. We shared the duck fat potatos and garlic mushrooms and every single item was Devine. Jeremy was a very attentive server who made excellent wine suggestions. We finished off our meal with the cheesecake which was a perfect finish to an exceptional dining experience!

We dined at the Astor Grill recently. This is a wonderful restaurant in Macquarie St, Hobart. It has an Art Deco ambience, and the decoration, fittings and furniture suit this era perfectly. Appropriate music is played at a sensibly unobtrusive volume level, and the whole dining experience is very welcoming and comfortable. Service from our waitress was superb, and she timed her re-appearances just perfectly, for extra drinks, courses etc. She took care to keep the second of my wife’s “small plates” warm for her rather then serve them together as had been originally planned. My wife chose a lobster pate plate, and an octopus dish. I had a steak with side of pommes frites. I was pleased to note a good serve of green veegetables accompanied my steak. We had Creme Catalan (similar to Creme Brulee) and an Affogato respectively for dessert. We chose Laurel Banks Riesling, a fine local wine, to accompany our meal. We were 100% happy with all our choices. My steak was certainly amongst the best I have ever had anywhere, and my wife’s seafood dishes also wonderfully tasty. All in all, a wonderful dining experience – not cheap – but quality seldom is! We can highly recommend this wonderful restaurant. Tip – the small plates are larger than an average sized entree, and two of these may be a good option rather than a “large plate” main.

The Astor Grill is a charming restaurant that belongs to another era – and really suits Hobart. The decor is warm and friendly with rich fabrics and timber; the entrance flanked by pillars and the inside walls near the kitchen a treasure trove of liquor.

Cozy, some food outstanding, but definitely did not meet expectations for the price. Would not recommend the duck as pomegranate sauce all over was way too sweet, sickly and ruined the overall dish. Service was very basic, felt that waitress did not have time for us.
