Lovely little cafe to eat at with a small but regularly changing menu and just a wonderful environment to be in. Beautiful inside and out, with good wait staff.

Friendly staff and the owner is on the floor working with them; great see such a vibrant team. There is a great dinning area at the back that is very private. They also have a large outdoor area perfect for a sunny day.

The Mill Cottage is one of three buildings lovingly restored and transformed into classy diverse venues : a cafe, quilting shop & gallery and a quilters B&B. Great coffee and cakes and a good menu. Staff are very friendly and they give you a discount when you bring your own coffee cup! The three locations have become an attraction for people from all over Australia and further abroad. Quilting workshops and exhibitions are very popular and have put Ballan on the map.

Just awful. Chef muttered under her breath and ‘eye-rolled’ when I ordered gluten free. Then judging from my reaction over the next 24-48hrs she served me gluten bread anyway. Owners then didn’t even bother to reply to my email about the matter.

The signs of a bad meal were there when my hot chocolate was spilled into the saucer right at the table and the waitress scurried off to get napkins to put under the cup to mop it up. Yep. We ordered a milk shake as well that didn’t come with a straw and grabbed cutlery from another table when our meals arrived and staff simply walked off. Yep. We ordered a standard poached eggs for breakfast with an extra of bacon. The meals took 15 mins to arrive and presented as 2 perfectly poached eggs placed side by side on a single slice of bread as big as a woman’s hand. The bacon was cooked to within an inch of it’s life and lay scattered around the plate. First mouthful of the eggs and the vinegar came through quite strongly. And lingered. The bacon required fingers to transport it from the plate to the mouth but was definitely crunchy! The friendly staff were surprised when the first plate was taken back to the counter. When the second one went back we were treated to “oh the bacon again?” and then eye rolls when told the eggs tasted like vinegar. Another 10 mins down and the bacon and eggs from the first plate returned on the original piece of toast. How did we know this? The small chunk cut out of the side before it went back!!! The waitress then asked if anything else was wanted. We declined to another round of visible eye rolls. Really disappointed and heading down to the local bakery.

This is a lovely little cafe with a beautiful rose garden. Traditional fare which can be hit and miss. Generally very good but nothing exceptional but the atmosphere is wonderful and the staff are kind.

Was one of my favourite places, but the new menu is less refined and very carb heavy. Most things now come with chips, or bread… Or in bread with chips. I miss the steak salads and charcuterie boards of days past, and won’t be popping in again. #LCHF #LOWCARB #goodcoffeethough

Great food nice surroundings and good service, a nice touch is having salt and pepper grinders on each table, clean friendly atmosphere, spotless restrooms, and a tourist mecca, make this place a must do when in Ballan.
