Had breakfast here and was greatly disappointed in the value for money. There are no split bills. Way overcharged.

The Black Dog has exceptional friendly service and a few vegan options! I had the Super Fresh Salad Bowl, with lettuce, tomato, avo, cucumber, onion, carrot and lemon mustard vinaigrette with pineapple juice. So delicious! My carnivorous husband had a good meal too 😛

If you are on holidays and are keen for large portions and basic fare this is the cafe for you. We arrived on an extremely hot public holiday and were grateful it was open (2 stars). We were told it was very busy and there might be a 15-20 minute wait, which was fine as we had an hour available. After 40 minutes of waiting, without any water offered, our juices and coffee arrived. We didn’t really understand why it took so long for drinks as the breakfast service was coming to an end, and the juice was bottled and poured into a glass (order was wrong, but oh well). The coffee was below average, but we were grateful to have anything by then. After another 10 minutes we let the staff know we may need to cancel our order as I had a flight to catch but thankfully our food was not far away. Our expectations had been lowered quite a bit, but the poor quality of the food was still a shock. We ordered poached eggs (one hard, one raw, bread floating in water, salad mix with bottled dressing) pancakes and French toast from a dirty grill. The team were obviously under a lot of strain on this busy and hot day. We would have happily waited an hour if we had been offered cold water during our wait, if the coffee had been okay, and if the quality of the food was better. From other reviews I understand this cafe is under new management and would benefit from focusing on the customer experience. While I don’t think we are the target market, generally people will be kind and understanding on a busy hot day by under promising and over delivering.

This small family run restaurant offers excellent food, freshly cooked using locally sourced ingredients. Conveniently located on The Esplanade, clean, efficient friendly staff. We had the Chefs Special, prawns with jasmine rice and the duck. Both well prepared, very tasty dishes, served by a very nice, friendly waitress who is learning her craft under the professional eyes of the owners. Good luck with this restaurant hope it continues to do well.

Excellent dining experience. The menu offers a good variety of choice. Meals are well presented with fresh, house-made flavoursome sauces. The meat and fish were cooked to perfection and the meals were huge. Friendly staff. Can highly recommend The Black Dog Cafe.
