Taste of Xi’an (西安风味) is a nice and clean Chinese restaurant serving up Xi’an favourites in the middle of the Wollongong CBD.

Stumbled across this on the way to the hairdresser. Have been meaning to try for months.

Finally Wollongong gets a good old fashioned street food style Chinese noodle restaurant. Yummy, fast, filling and cheap.

I’ve got beef with this place.. My wife and I spotted this eatery while we were on our way to one of our favourite restaurants for lunch. We didn’t have much time, so I decided for us to eat here instead. After ordering beef noodle soup and other various “beef” dishes, we were served mutton (sheep). My wife knew that they served us wrongly, so she asked them if the food was real beef, as she does not like mutton. They were adamant that the meat was beef only, which was a lie, as you can definitely taste the difference. Not only that, the food was terrible anyhow. My wife did not speak to me the whole day after that, and she didn’t even eat anything. She still can’t forget the bad food and won’t let it go. We are kind people, but this is just unacceptable.

What a great little place. The food is excellent, try the lamb broth and their dumplings. Quite unique and excellent value for money.

It’s one of the rare Chinese food with new and healthy taste. I ordered beef water dumplings, lamb soup, and ice soy milk. All of them were good, but the lamb soup is quite special, it taste lighter than you think, but it’s magically tasty and fresh. The master wife and her husband are friendly people. All of their food are handmade. They maintain a very clean shop. If you like Chinese food and want to have a surprise, you should try this one.

How do you know when a Chinese restaurant is good ? Usually it’s packed with the local Chinese community. For a bargain of 12.50, you can have an amazing dumpling soup with a burger, meet is fresh, flour is fresh, everything was delicious and amazing. Most of it, the staff was super friendly and willing to share their knowledge about the food.

I’ve now eaten through the whole menu and can confirm this place is legit! The food is so homey, the fresh pulled noodles are amazing! And the preserved vegetable, mince and noodle soup is sooooo tasty. I highly recommend it! Good price too 😀
