Social Profile:

Mortadeli is a European style deli, offering an abundance of primo flavours to the surf coast. It will be your day to day coffee stop (coffee supplied by Everyday Coffee), go-to for charcuterie, antipasto, finish at home meals, baked goods, homemade jarred items and pantry staples…and of course sandwiches, because we can’t be a deli without a made-to-order sandwich on offer. We won’t over complicate our sandwiches, we aim to improve on cult classics. Everything that goes in will be of the highest quality and we will be making the sandwiches to order. Inspired by old world delis in New York, alimentaris in in Italy and bodegas in Spain, we’ve tailored the look to keep traditions alive, in a modern and simple way.

We grabbed a couple of sandwiches and coffees for our trip back to the city. This little gem makes you want to come and live here! The service is genuine and friendly. The coffee (the baseline barometer for a venues quality) is on point. And there’s an excellent selection of sandwiches to suit all tastes. It looked like a local favourite and for good reason. Can’t wait to come back here!

Lovely spot for a coffee. The sandwich board is packed with options and you really just want to try em all when you’re reading through the options.

We had an amazing lunch in the new restaurant area. Highly recommend the spinach and cheese ravioli and veal scallopini. Menu changes every few weeks showcasing what’s in season. See OpenTable for heaps of reviews by those who have dined in the new pasta bar.

We went to the pasta bar for lunch. Had been looking forward to it, around all the hype of it opening. The atmosphere and fit out of the shop is so cool, it really sets the scene of a pasta bar in Rome. They have not missed in this department.

First of all, Victoria has a lot of really impressive coffee on offer in small regional towns, BUT this was the BEST coffee I have ever tasted. I would literally love to give this review 6 stars and I hardly review places at all. I literally stopped walking in my tracks as I tasted my first sip! Wow…. Beyond wow even! So flavoursome and silky smooth and a texture that I have never had before delivered such a gastronomic high that I am still savouring the taste hours later contemplating driving back 3 hrs to get another hit! I also had one of the Italian pastries which was equally to die for. At the time it felt a bit surreal to buy a French croissant at an Italian deli but I can’t wait to try it tomorrow for breakfast. If I ever revisit Torquay again it will almost be a single minded pilgrimage back to this coffee Mecca. Oh and the staff were so friendly the lady even suggested her favourite French restaurant to enjoy on our travels. I also have to go back and thank the lovely lady at the chemist that said I shouldn’t leave town without trying something from this place….. a million thanks for your wonderful epicurean recommendation.

I was very excited to try this and I was let down. Really disappointed by our experience at the pasta bar. Firstly, we were contacted in the morning to confirm our booking. I asked if possible to add a seat to our reservation (which was bar seating) and they said no problems. That was all fine. Unfortunately my friend’s child became ill so I had to remove that seat. Given I expected they’d be busy, I called not even half an hour later and apologised and said we wouldn’t need that seat after all. The person I spoke to said “great now I have to rearrange the booking again” sorry what? You’re just shuffling a single bar seat on the computer.. it was 10:30am and our booking was for 1:45pm. I don’t understand the rude reaction when I was trying to be considerate of their booking needs. We arrived to the place at 1:40pm. Saw our bar seats were set up. The lady seating people said we had to wait outside. Meanwhile, 2 young women she clearly knew said they didn’t have a booking but wanted to eat. The lady instantly seated them. Why couldn’t we just take our seats at our already set up table?? We got seated at 2pm!!! Once seated, we were not offered any water or anything for over half an hour. Meanwhile other customers were seated and served their meals when they’d arrived AFTER us. A couple sat down right behind us after we’d been waiting 20 minutes for some water or even someone to just ask if we wanted drinks, and they were instantly served and given drinks and food before our drinks order was taken. We made eye contact as a hint multiple times to different serving staff and they looked at us and walked off. We eventually had to wave someone over to get some water and drinks. I paid $35 for 7 small parcels of ravioli. Absolute rip off. Pasta is so cheap to make. Yes it can be time consuming – but the serving size for the ravioli was abysmal. My friends ordered the ragu and carbonara which was a much larger serving size for about the same price. Very odd. The ravioli sauce wasn’t right, was very bland – needed more pepper or something to make it more interesting, it just tasted like butter.
