They have a different kind of Mexican menu. I think it’s more authentic. The pulled pork tostada was delicious also the cocktail special was great. I look forward to returning. On Tue night they had a Tostada Menu with limited selections available, but still delicious. We went on Tue. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

As a Newtown local I have a ton of food options and I will start this review by saying Maiz is easily in the top 3. Firstly this isn’t just your local tex mex. The dishes are well thought out and the flavours are deep and complex but we’ll balanced, couple this with great presentation and delicious cocktails it’s hard to fault this place. Outside of the food the staff are super friendly and add to the vibe. It’s a must try in Newtown.

Nothing short of amazing. We didn’t plan to, but ended up ordering all vegetarian/vegan dishes and they were incredible.

Visited for a celebratory date night last month. While the restaurant is unassuming from King Street and even inside the covered courtyard it’s nothing fancy, the food and drinks being served really make this place worth a visit.

A bit of fun with the tostada Tuesdays. They deliberately eschew tacos but honestly a shell and a filling and it’s all variation anyway and same same really. Bonus – it’s even possible to share a tostada. They’ve variety of flavoured fillings, hit and miss. Example, pork, yes more carnitas please. Beef, dry and no flavour compensation for the 18hours of barbacoa. Cactus – intetesting, bit fun. Interesting flavours, bit of spice kick in some but nothing extreme. The giant 40cm machetes are big, a bit interesting but I think the novelty wears down, only so much quesadilla one might have so be sure to share, it’s huge.
