Located right opposite to the Hyde Park Barracks’s, this cafe is a hidden gem. The reason why I said it’s a hidden gem because one of my friend and I were here other day and we never noticed a cafe. Couple of days later, another friend of mine took me here for breakfast. The staff is absolutely courteous and more French. They have a tiny take away counter at the entrance and a large seating area on the left side of the church.

My new favourite cafe in this part of Sydney. Great food, delivered quickly and efficiently by friendly and knowledgeable staff. The setting is fantastic with plenty of space between tables and the alcoves (crypts) help manage the noise. The lunch menu offered a variety of light and more substantial meals, supported by an excellent blackboard menu. Value for money was great and we never felt rushed (or neglected).

Quirky, unusual indoor seating area, essential for raining weather. Food and service on point, quick and friendly service.

Food was subpar, ordered ham and cheese croissant was very burnt, this is during a time when it wasn’t as busy. Banana bread also had no flavor to it.

Perfectly placed oasis hidden under Saint James Anglican Church under the bustling sidewalks of Macquarie and Philip streets!! Lovely coffee scrummy food, beautiful friendly fast service in an unique environment with plastered arched rooves and sandstone walls.

Lunch is limited in choice, size and quality – the bagguette (2 x 1cm thin strips of chicken snitzell) almost broke my teeth, burnt black and rock hard yet still served? You cant be serious. And the place is noisy as hell – just the design of the building, barely hear the person next to you. This place needs to take a serious look at itself.

Enthusiastic, hospitality-focused French outfit that had a good vibe, very popular for takeout coffee. The coffee was definitely the star, as the Croque Monseiur was a bit flat – not enough bechamel in my view – and although prompt arrived lukewarm. The pastry to follow absolved this sin however, as it was divine! I’d frequent again if in the area and choose something different off the menu.

Worst meal in 12 years living in Sydney. Galette was cold, with four slices of reconstituted ham, a smear of cheese and three slices of tomato. On leaving we were charged $25 each for three $22 galettes, with a perfunctory apology when this was pointed out. For a superb galette (at the same price) go to the Four Frogs crêperie at Circular Quay.
