Fun and funky cafe opposite Main Beach , Fishpen Merimbula. A family owned business which has been producing home-style cooking and baking for the last 10 years. All food is made on premises with an emphasis on wholesome cooking with the best ingredients sourced locally. Our coffee is sourced from Alfresco Roasters, Moruya and is 100% Columbian bean roasted weekly. We use local fish from our supplier in Eden for our very generous and delicious fish and chips. We have a dedicated takeaway section (Captain Cranky’s) which will be open over long weekends and summer holidays. Due to COVID the main cafe is still closed but we have everything you need from our front window. Ample outside seating, dog , wheel-chair and pram friendly. OPEN 7 DAYS

Decided to stop in for lunch based on Google reviews of competing, like-for-like cafes and boy are we glad we did. The menu items were more accessible using Google menu tab when viewing online, otherwise there’s quite a vast menu to take in as they’re written on various boards around the shop front. Easy enough either way though. Busy cafe, plenty of people enjoying what looked to be great food. Friendly staff made ordering easy. It’s a”grab a table and head on up when you’re ready to order” type of cafe – very casual. Ordered the flake fish and chips as well as the crispy chicken burger, along with coffees and a spider for the young one. Wow! The serves were impressive, as too the quality of the food. The crispy chicken burger had to be one of the best I’ve ever had. The bun was beautiful. Freshly prepared, super crispy, moist chicken and the chips were cooked beautifully. The flake fish and chips also a delight – that’s how you batter fish! Light, crispy and fish cooked just right. Coffees were nice. Was easy to see why it gets as many customers as they do. Would I go back again? absolutely. Compliments to these guys, everything was top notch!

Edited: Visited again after 4 years and what a different experience this was. The indoor dining was closed. The menu has completely changed to now predominantly sandwiches and wraps. Decided not to eat here because it all looked so underwhelming and disappointing.

Very friendly staff at this dog friendly cafe. Extensive menu that caters for Vegetarians & Vegans. Plenty of parking. Situated across the road from a park that has access to the beach. I ordered the local fish of the day with sweet potato fries & a garden salad. It was delicious! Toby & Gracie got a doggo biscuit each.

Out on the Fishpen side of Merimbula with the beach and park in front is Cranky Cafe with a great range of takeaway or eat in food, the menu caters for fish, burgers breakfast sandwiches or lunch and more as well as coffee or a shake, good fast service and fresh food. After having some lunch or breakfast take a walk around the park and water edge and enjoy the sun.

Decided we’d make the 3k walk from the other side of Merimbula Lake where we are staying on hols, and give this place a go. Glad we did. The best fish and chips we’ve had in a long time. Could not fault it. Great little place with wonderful service.
