Impeccable service, the staff are friendly happy to help. The cafe itself reminds me of a well kept school cafeteria, clean & neat with tables & chairs. They don’t serve alcohol. The food is I’m told authentic Chinese done really well and our friends loved it. The serves are large and presented well. The flavours are there but are undeveloped. For me the food lacked in taste, texture and balance. But for all those there, it appeared that for the price and size of meal, it’s definately a must try.

Tried it for one time on their hainanese chicken rice and that’s it. It’s not really that bad but certainly I won’t be paying for that again, hence wouldn’t be eating it if it’s free too.

Chinatown Cafe is an Adelaide institution and that’s why it has a line out the door at lunchtime. But never fear, the service is ultra quick and the tables turn over quickly. The food is fresh, generous serves and delicious. Great value. You can serve yourself chilli oil and this amazing intense ginger sauce – make sure you try it!

I’ve been coming here for years. Although the price of the hainess chicken and rice has gone from 10$ to now 16$ over the years it’s still very delicious. I’ve sampled other dishes from this venue and they are ok, not amazing but not terrible. The main reason you would come here is for the hainese chicken and rice with the asien greens and spicy broth. It tastes amazing and always fills me up.

The combination fried rice wasn’t good it had boiled rice and crab sticks in it and a few odd bits .This was not fried , maybe tossed in a wok once . I know about chinese cooking because I worked in a chinese restaurant for years and was very close to the Chinese owner and his family, and had a chinese boyfriend . We’ve been here many times before and some things are ok but they rush people through .

First time visiting in 2 years. Prices are still very reasonable. The laksa is meant to be the best in Adelaide, though I tried other things today. The curry chicken was tender and well proportioned. The wonton noodles were delicious and flavourful. As usual, their sauce station delivered great flavours to complement the meals. The staff were friendly and smiling, definitely brought value to the experience. Absolutely worth a visit, just note that they close around 4pm.

I have been dining at the Chinatown Cafe for over 20 years and in that time the excellent quality and flavours of the Malaysian style menu have only improved.

One of the best value for money eats in Adelaide. A visit to Chinatown always includes a stop off to have lunch here. Hainanese Chicken, Kway Teow and my favourite menu item, Laksa. All food is served quick and packed full of flavour. @cwade_creative
