Set on a sunny corner in Redfern, Calico Redfern puts the hospitality back into all-day venues. We were greeted and seated the second we walked in the door. Despite it being a busy Saturday lunch, staff emitted a relaxed vibe, taking time at the table to joke with my dining companion about his need to be double-parked with a spicy Margie ($18) and something from the rotating on-tap list. The zingy margarita was very well-infused with fresh green jalapeño. The Grifter pale ale ($9) was a quaffer, and staff happily transferred my bottled beer selection—a Stone & Wood Pacific Ale ($10)—to a chilled glass.

Went here for the first time last night and was impressed with the food vibe and service. A friend of mine who knows the owners suggested we go and it was a lovely experience. Owners were very friendly and attentive. Food was great and beautifully presented. A fusion of Italian woodfire pizza and middle eastern foods. Entree was lovely with Hummus with pomegranate and some interesting cheese thingy. Pizzas were really nice with nice dough and sauces and anchovies weren’t too salty if you like that thing.Crab ravioli was really tasty too.

I rate the woodfired bread very highly. Chewy, fluffy, and the right amount of saltiness. Crab ravioli was great, both flavour and texture-wise. The king crab added the perfect kick and the sauce was seasoned well. Definitely coming back for their lunch menu next time.

I do yoga around the corner and always grab a take away coffee or sit in. I’ve also had dinner here before. The coffee is great and the food was delicious – but it’s the service and warmth from the owner and the staff make this place incredible. An owner who truly loves what he does and makes everyone feel incredibly welcome.
