Absolutely loved the Q train experience. The friendliest welcome , gorgeous setting for 4 in a first class cabin, wonderful service from the wait staff & the food was delicious. All with fantastic matching wines. We were on the stream train for my Mums 80th birthday. My parents loved the experience as did I. Highly recommend as a special gift or day out ! Liam our waiter was fabulous.

Such a great day out. Amazing service from the moment we stepped off our bus onto the train. First class is a great private option. A lovely 5 course degustation menu with matching drinks. Awesome views along the way and it’s great to be able to get off at a couple of stations and take some photos. A lovely experience that everyone should try.

I would highly recommend this as an excellent day out. From the minute we arrived on the platform to the time we left the staff service was extraordinary. Have to give a particular shout out to Daniel who was our host for the day. He answered every question with good humor and was able to enhance our experience with his knowledge of the menu, the train and the area. Every course was planned for winter & it was the perfect antidote to the bleak and cold of day we attended. I was impressed that the menu included not only matching wines but if you preferred you could get a matching beer or mocktail. This was ideal for the driver. The train trip itself is like a journey back to the days before it was all rush, rush, rush! The scenery you pass can be enjoyed because you actually get to see it. We enjoyed this day so much we are already planning on our next trip with friends.

Always planned to do the Q Train and with some semi decent winter weather, we thought we’d give it a try. It’s a smooth start when you arrive and are given a welcome drink and arancini. The meal is touted as a 5 course degustation, and while the food is good (produce is amazing but the food wasn’t wow), the courses are quite small and I think it’s a bit of a stretch to include bread & butter with a sliver of prosciutto and a cloud of foamy dip as a ‘course’. Likewise with the pumpkin and polenta course – this is an accompaniment and not a ‘course’. The katsu pie was smaller than a bakery pie and while tasty, barely filled the stomach. The edamame that went with it were delicious. Dessert was the pick of the bunch. I realise space is limited in the onboard kitchen, but for $139 per head (plus drinks), we shouldn’t be leaving the train hungry. Perhaps pad out the bread ‘course’ with some more anti pasti that doesn’t require kitchen space and oven time? The Q Train something to tick off and do, but I wouldn’t rush back with interstate or overseas guests. Our server Veronica was fantastic.

The whole experience was wonderful from the ferry ride from docklands to portarlington and the pick up from portarlington to drysdale station.

Fantastic!! My wife and I just got back to Melbourne after a brilliant day on the Q Train. Food was tasty and interesting, matched with wines from the region, which were equally beautiful. Georgia was our “butler” and not only did she gives us tasting notes for each of the five courses and wines, but her boyfriend works on the maintenance of the steam engine and she knows all about it! Such a brilliant experience and worth every cent. Highly recommend and we will definitely do it again when entertaining out-of-towners.

Unfortunately, for us this was a disappointing experience that we had been looking forward to for some time.
