After living in Fukuoka for 3 years I’m now on the prowl in Victoria to find sensational ramen. Whilst the Tonkotsu Ramen at Sober Ramen has a excellent, what stole the show for me was the karaage-style mushrooms, perfectly battered and lightly seasoned to replicate beautifully their meaty counterpart. A downside of living in Japan was the limited catering to vegetarians so this was a real treat for my fiancé who usually cannot eat Japan’s famous fried chicken. I would also highly recommend the miso cauliflower which was also a crowd favourite at the table. I will be back to try Sober’s own specialities in the Truffle Ramen and the Beef Rib Ramen which sounded divine! They also have Orion on tap

First time at Sober Ramen. The vibe and fit out is really cool in the Torquay restaurant, liked it a lot. The service was great as well, nice staff. Food was a bit of a let down. The squid we had for entree was yummy. For main I ordered the chicken and prawn dumping ramen, it was really lacking in flavour. I was also sick in the stomach for 3 days after this dinner, unsure if related. The beef was tender but again the ramen wasn’t flavour full. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will go back 🙁

Sat outside with the pups! It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed ramen since it’s virtually impossible to find one with a gf alternative. This one came with rice noodles. I had the spicy which had the tiniest tingle. Delicious we will be back within the week. Also the momo hime sake was delicious.

It is a real shame this Sober Ramen bar isn’t in Melbourne, as it is the best we have ever had! We ordered the grilled beef rib ramen, seafood ramen, spicy fried calamari, gyoza and fried tofu. Every dish was cooked to perfection, the flavours present with each mouthful and a decent size portion of beef, seafood and ramen. The service was excellent, the server was friendly and prompt with our orders, and the pleasant atmosphere made for a tremendous sober ramen bar experience. There are many quality eating options available in Torquay, but be sure to check this place out when you are in town.

Overall amazing experience. Good quality food. The karaage was so juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside , we thought it was perfectly cooked. enjoyed the japanese matcha beer too!
