The food is nice and the staff are pleasant. But, the inconsistency in the volume of chips you get in correspondence with the requested amount (med, large or $10 worth etc..) is appalling. It’s as if their is no set standard and you are at the mercy of whoever is working that shift. One time I asked for a medium size, and they barely filled the corresponding size container. Was disappointed but didn’t think much of it. The next time I got a medium size chips, they didn’t skimp out and it was a decent amount. The next time, to hopefully avoid disappointment and because I was feeding a larger amount of people I ordered a large chips and it was essentially the medium size, this time wrapped in paper (to disguise the fact it’s not a large amount of chips? There was nearly more paper than chips). Next time I ordered $15 worth of chips because I figured they’ve only got the three sizes, but I want a bit more than the large serving and because i wanted enough for about 10-15 people to have a decent amount of chips each. Sadly, I was severely disappointed as what I received was BARELY enough to feed 6 people. When I went to pick up my order and the young woman handed the parcel to me, I could immediately tell it was a poor amount of chips but I refrained from confronting any of the workers at the time as I felt it was not the appropriate time given I was in a bit of a rush, hungry and did not want to be rude. Alas, I decided to leave this review because I know Salty’s is an establishment of terrifically dedicated people to their customers, community and employees. The quality of your other menu items are wonderful and I believe that quality (and quantity!!) should be applied to the simplest of menu items, The Humble Hot Chip.

Absolute best fish and chips in the Gladstone area. Have been coming here regularly since they opened, and I’ve never had a single bad experience with the food. Staff and owners are friendly and extremely helpful. If you are ever in Calliope, do yourself a favour and grab the Crumbed Coral Trout.
