Was keen to check out this relatively new fine dinner in the heart of Ballarat – starting off with some bread from a very memorable local bakery, the rest of the night was filled with thoughtful dishes backed by excellent service. Favourites from the July menu were the duck prosciutto amuse and the orecchiette!

Wow what a dining experience this restaurant is. What a game changer in Ballarat! Peasant was extremely accommodating in hosting our large dining event. We couldn’t be happier with the food, the atmosphere, the staff, the service, the plates, the glasses, the chairs ….and on and on. Dan , Doug and their staff members were absolutely amazing. The knowledge and experience they all have really shined on the night and the food was something out of this world. The menu was exciting right from the beginning as was the complexity of each dish. Dans seamless front of house skills and Doug’s culinary expertise were only just part of the highlight of the evening. I would highly recommend these guys to anyone wanting that touch of class and quality in a dining experience. Congratulations to you guys. About time Ballarat had something quite special.

If you’re looking for a top quality restaurant in Ballarat, look no further than Peasant. Each of the 5 courses we had for their June offering was beautifully served and absolutely delicious. Great matched wines too. Highly recommend – will definitely be coming back.

The best restuarant in Ballarat. Each course is just a delight for the senses, perfect texture and flavour matches that seem like pure magic from the chef. The gnocchi is to die for – little pillows of deliciousness, crispy on the outside and light as a feather inside. Wines are excellent and well-priced and a great selection of dessert wines and spirits. Service is delightful. I’m already looking forward to my next meal there.

We dined in July – the set 5-course menu was so thoughtfully conceived. The service was delightful: attentive and focused, knowledgeable too – especially with a tantalizing introduction to every paired wine, and each was matched so well. The standout dish for me was the pork shoulder, roasted fennel etc. (I salivate writing this). We had a great night and are so looking forward to a return.

Our first time (but definitely not our last) at Peasant was just wonderful. We had been given a voucher for a birthday and were unsure of even where it was, and hidden behind two old doors, it was like entering a hidden world. Our waiter was professional, warm, and made us feel completely welcome from the moment we stepped foot inside. The atmosphere and lighting were delightful, and best of all, the food and wine could not be faulted. The best meal l have eaten in Ballarat and had me asking about the ingredients in every course. It was a generous meal in every sense, and worth every cent. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough!

Best restaurant in Ballarat – the service is attentive and incredibly well-informed, with intelligent and ever-changing menu compositions always bringing a sense of surprise and intrigue. The whole dining experience is serene, with perfectly balanced food and wine options to satisfy every palette. Easily the finest culinary treat within 100km.

I dined at Peasant on the first night of BOWL, the à la carte experience. The food was hearty and substantial. The duck rillette was a well-conceived dish. Service was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere-wise, it was a little dark for me.

Really enjoyed our family feast at Peasant. Such a long time since having a such a wonderful dining experience with attention to detail in both food and service. Staff were wonderful in every aspect and the wine suggestion made by the sommelier was just perfect.

Excellent experience in every way. The food was some of the best I’ve had anywhere; wine pairings were perfect and explained in a very down-to-earth manner; the wines by the glass list was extensive, as well. Service was perfect, and the atmosphere was cosy. Pre-set menu, but there’s a vegetarian version available and they’ll also cater to gluten intolerances. Really high-end dining without being stuffy. We don’t live in Ballarat but will absolutely be back and would plan a weekend trip around eating here any time.
