Ive had some amazing and authentic Thai food in Melbourne, but unfortunately, not from here. I spent $100 on 5 dishes, but sad to say, I didn’t enjoy a single one. Being Thai, born and raised, I know how Thai food is supposed to taste. This is very far from it. The laab (ลาบ) was sweet, bland, not sour at all. It did not even have ground glutinous rice. It also had a lettuce leaf. Which is never placed with laab. Duck curry. The worst I’ve ever had. Flavourless bland. Not rich. It’s like they used coconut milk instead of coconut cream. Doesn’t taste like they used palm sugar either. Pad Thai was dry, chewy and flavourless. Tamarind sauce was not used. A warm chewy, pork flavoured dessert. The other dishes I’d rather not speak of. I’ve made hundreds of Thai dishes Bangkok in my life time, and this appears as though they’ve just chosen the cheapest ingredients to appeal to the western palate. Or, the chef is not Thai and has no pride cooking Thai cuisine.

We visited on a Friday evening and it was rather empty, but decided to give it a try after reading the good reviews. The food are very authentic and definitely did not lose the Thai flavors. The tom yum soup was our favourite. Staff was very friendly as well. Definitely a must try if you are after authentic Thai food.

Went to Nine Elephant for lunch. We ordered Crispy Pork Salad, Red Duck Curry & Pineapple Fried Rice. If you have to choose one dish, I would definitely recommend the Crispy Pork Salad. The salad sauce is very very tasty & the pork is very crispy! The Pineapple fried rice & Duck Red Curry were really good too. For desert, we decided to order the Banana Fritters as the picture looks enticing & Rainbow Rice Ball (though the picture for this is not as enticing as the one for the Banana Fritters ). We were actually surprised! The rainbow rice ball is actually very very yummm. We love this one even better than the banana fritters. If you are planning to eat here best to book a table to avoid disapointment . Table service was reasonably fast too considering it is duch a busy restaurant and there’s only two people managing the restaurant.

Went here for a late Xmas in July work lunch (2 Aug 23) and was blown away by the food. I rate my own green curry as pretty dam good, but this was one of the best I have ever had. We shared entrees, and these too were totally awesome as well. I will be back…thanks for the unexpected lunch awesome experience.

I’ve been going to 9 Elephants since they first opened many years ago, I used to work nearby so would go often with colleagues. I don’t work nearby anymore but still go when I have a craving for my favourite dish – Pad Thai with prawns. I went in today for lunch and was so disappointed: the noodles were not soft like they usually are, the prawns were a bit overcooked, it was spicy, there were no bean shoots and the size of the dish is smaller! I’ve attached a photo of what the dish used to look like, though they don’t give lemon wedges any more which gave a nice citrus freshness to the dish .The girl that served us wasn’t friendly so I didn’t bother telling her about the differences I noticed (I don’t think she would have cared). Has the original chef left? :-/
