Had much higher expectations and got disappointed. Atmosphere was nice and the staff were attentive. Sushi platter was just ok. Long delay between serving food for each person. Unagi don was too small. Daily fish nitsuke was half raw, chewy, and missing all other ingredients visible on the menu. After asking, the response was as simple as sorry we have changed the recipe. Won’t try again.

This place is for a bit fancy experience having Japanese food, but I was not sure if it’s from Japanese people… sorry but I have been to multiple Japanese restaurants where the food was so much better and with better price. We got sushi and sashimi plate, the taste is so average, small amount, then we got Masuya’s special dish which was miso wagyu skewer for $14.8 and literally 1 small and short skewer. It tasted a bit too sweet and salty to me. Unfortunately I didn’t really enjoy.

Sushi and sashimi were okay, tempura was too oily, and service had deteriorated significantly since my last visit 5 years ago. The waiter was spraying cleaning liquid on the next table while we were eating, and the smell of the spray came across to our table. They did not have beer on tap, and we had to ask for water twice before it arrived

I love Japanese food. My friend took me to this awesome hidden Japanese restaurant near Wynyard (O’Connell St)

Had the daily special, which usually is not on the menu and sold fairly quickly. Their lunch is pretty popular, and most of the times there will be a queue.

I visited Masuyama Japanese restaurant last night with high hopes of enjoying a delightful dining experience. We opted for their Sushi and Sashimi platter, excited to savor the flavors that many reviewers had praised. The food was reasonably good, but unfortunately, our evening took an unpleasant turn.

Great Japanese restaurant in the city. The place was big, nice and kind of cozy. The sushi was fresh and had quite a bit of variety. The grilled salmon and the eel rolls were delicious! Extensive drinks list. Service was wonderful, cheerful and attentive. We had some members of our party with allergies and they showed concern and care to make sure they were

The food was good but I’m very worried about the hygiene issues. As we were sitting in front of the sushi bar and next to the entrance of the kitchen, there were so many small flies on the wall (shown as those small dark spots on the wall) and some of them flying over and around our food.

Probably the worst Japanese dining experience I had.

The best value and most delicious items were the sushi platters. We have the aburi sushi platter. This was a big portion and was enough to share between two people with a couple of extra dishes. It was very fresh too. The salmon was almost buttery. It was so soft. The teriyaki salmon dish wasn’t large though. I expected more. The vegetables were also very small and barely cooked. Some weren’t even warm. The two side dishes definitely weren’t worth the price, but the platter was. Service was quick too, which was good because we were off to the theatre.
