Went on for a date night with my husband to this beautiful Japanese spot as I read the reviews on Urban Melbourne.

We came here for dinner on Sunday and were pleasantly surprised with the crowd. The restaurant has three levels, in which we were seated in the basement. The place is very well decorated and the service was excellent. We had the oysters and the sardine with cured eggs (special of the day). Both were done to perfection. The king mushrooms with truffle was another flavour bomb! This paired very well with the Kagashima beef. Bookings are recommended for weekends.

Food is decent, but the service is too ‘attentive’ until we felt we are being ushered. Our plates were taken away when we have not even finished our food. I understand there are bookings after us, but we are still within the dining limit time (1.5 hours).

We received the worst customer service experience in a fine dining restaurant. The waitress was very pushy to sell us the oysters. After we declined her recommendation, she became very ignorant. Eg: when she topped up other customers’ water, she ignored our empty glasses; no eye contact or further conversation; not clearing the empty dishes; made us wait when we asked for bills… it was very obvious that she avoided our table.

We had an absolutely amazing time at the Kisume Tuna Fish Masterclass. The chefs were knowledgeable and the food was delicious. The drinks are certainly on the pricier side (we were offered a $42 champagne as we arrived…), but the host was incredible and attentive. Some of the better service we have experienced in Melbourne. A must-go for a date night or a cooking experience!

We went for dinner here recently and tried their sushi and steak.

A generous 4 stars for the food, as I think it was definitely too overpriced for the quality. For me the somen was the best and most interesting dish we ordered, so I would highly recommend that. But everything else was very average.

Beautifully presented food, fresh and taste amazing. These dishes are very difficult to recreate at home, so this place is great for celebrating a special occasion. My favourite dish is the kingfish sashimi, but I would also go with the waiter’s recommendations. The entrance off Flinders lane is a little dark so watch your step as you push the large heavy red door.

Highly rate the chef’s table. An amazing gastronomic experience and introduction to those who are fairly new to the omakase experience. Great mix of entrees with sushi options to make you feel full afterwards. Beautiful techniques, flavours and produce.

There are a handful of high end restaurants that really provide an “experience” as well as amazing food, and Kisume is one of them. We really enjoyed our chef’s table experience and raved about the food. Very unique combinations and unusual local herbs and eadible plants that we had not even had before. Good alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks (including silver needle tea). Will not forget our experience and will likely come back.
