In Mexico, a ‘fonda’ is a home that a family have opened up to their local community as an unofficial restaurant, bringing people together over delicious home-cooked food. Inspired by the fondas of Mexico, we’ve designed our restaurants to make everyone feel at home, with a menu that blends the best Mexican street food flavours with the freshest, ethically-sourced ingredients. Ordered a chicken quesadilla and the chicken was red raw. Called to complain and the woman on the phone said it couldn’t be raw as their chicken is twice cooked. I told her I had a photo to email, have sent it through and still haven’t received a response nor a refund. Horrible

A decent place for mexican food. Enjoyed my prawn taco but personally think that the crispy cauliflower one was a little bit lacking of flavours. Quesadilla was decent. The star of the night for me was watermelon juice with lime – so gooooood! I will definitely come back just for this drink.

Fast Mexican food. We came here on a weekday night and our food was brought out to us within 15 minutes of ordering. The shop uses a QR code to access the menu, order your food and to pay. Food was of good quality.

Today, I had the opportunity to eat at Fonda Mexican, in Collingwood and it has been a unique experience, from the service to the food, the staff is very friendly and they make you feel very special, it really is a place I would return to without hesitation. 5 stars

Your Collingwood location needs to close and you guys need to start again. What a horrible experience. We ordered take away for 630 pick up. Was told 5 minutes. 15 minutes later we were told 20 more minutes. Then we were told 1 more item needed to be made, that took another 15. We walked out at 715, I asked if there were napkins in there, I was told yes, there was not. Lucas the bartender there, was very defensive when asked about my food, he needs to be retrained in how to deal with difficult situations. It’s one thing a customer hates the most, and that’s being lied to, 5 minutes was always a lie. Just to add insult to injury, almost all of our food was stone cold. The staff told us that the manager had quit the day prior and because they couldn’t keep up, the staff were turning away customers to an empty restaurant in the end. I firmly believe the business needs to be shut down until all of these major issues can be sorted out, my situation also remains unsolved.

We’ve ordered from Fonda before and got/get the Vegan Nachos and Vegan burrito bowl. This time, they didn’t inform us that they were out of sour cream and replaced it with jalapeños which we didn’t want, and then in the burrito bowl there was about 2 teaspoons of rice. It’s very hit or miss as sometimes it’s been good and other times it’s lacked ingredients.

My first and last visit to a Fonda unfortunately. Dined with my mother and partner. Initially took quite a while for us to be greeted/seated (but that could be forgiven). The food took a very long time to come out and was served at random. First came my nachos, then my partners burrito 5 minutes later at which we were asked “what else were you waiting on?” when delivered… which is concerning. Took another 10 minutes for my mothers quesadilla and then a further 5 minutes for my partners additional taco and my additional quesadilla. In my family, we wait until all food has arrived to begin eating out of politeness, so as you can imagine the first lot of food that came out (20 min prior) was pretty cold by the time we started eating. The nachos were very obviously heated in a microwave (which we also asked and were confirmed on by the manager when leaving) which meant the beef was dry. The pulled pork was SO over seasoned that my partner and I felt as if we were chewing grains of sand from the clumps of seasoning. Wasn’t enjoyable. The fish in my partners fish taco wasn’t “heated” fully leaving the centre still somewhat frozen and watery. And the basil and jalapeño aioli with my mothers meal was tasteless. We left a lot of uneaten food. We did inform the manager of the quality and that we weren’t very happy, but he didn’t seem to care. AND LASTLY, 5 hours since our visit and we are all feeling very unwell (myself and partner especially). Fonda isn’t exactly a cheap place to eat… I would expect a lot more considering how much we paid. Guzman wins 100%.
