Bamboo Spice is a hidden gem we stumbled upon while searching for dinner on a weekend evening. Despite our late arrival, we were pleased to find that it was one of the few restaurants open until 9pm in the area.

Bamboo spice was one of the very few places open late on Monday evening for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised.

On holiday from Perth. Obviously we’re spoilt for choice as with choice comes quality… I had a chuckle about the prior reviews of Bamboo No Spice, but I do have to agree somewhat.

Friday nights must be a seniors happy evening event, when we arrived most tables had no food grey haired old peeps kept pretending to sip wine from empty glasses though there was definitely drinking earlier judging by the loud conversations. We were told to come back an hour later and still the same scenery six of us had to squeeze and eat at a small table while the rest of the patrons were still chatting away till closing time though finished their meal probably hours ago.

This Thai restaurant in Dunsborough is fabulous. My Thai wife and I have dined at many Thai restaurants in Thailand and Australia and this is among our most favourite. The Thai owner, nicknamed Antony, is a wonderfully generous man who we’ve noticed has many local customers who become his loyal dining friends. His staff, such as Mr Gong (Jackson), the lovely Japanese lady, and all his Thai wait staff, work hard to serve you and enjoy the special Thai menu they offer their customers. The restaurant is beautiful inside with Thai historical scenery. Parking is outside or close by. My Thai wife and I have dined here 6 times over the past few months and again tomorrow and highly recommend the restaurant to everyone, for its tasty Thai food, caring staff, beautiful decor, and easy access. They also do take-away for those busy customers but don’t miss dining in when you are visiting Dunsborough.

Authentic Thai food in the middle of nowhere. Menu was not extensive but everything we ordered was delicious. There is only mango sticky rice for the dessert. Service is a bit slow especially during peak hours. For weekends, reservations are recommended, we got very lucky when we walked in there was a table but had to wait for a few minutes. Caters to large group as well.

Coconut prawns were real bad, tasted like they were cooked straight from the freezer, tough & tasteless. Chicken Pad Thai was enjoyable but the Beef Thai Noodle Soup was a bit dishwashy. Food came out fast & service was excellent – what a great team, even the young crew who were obviously still learning. Tables were packed in tight as were the hungry customers. Heard great things but actually quite dissappointed.

A nice little find in Dunsborough, ordered my go-to dishes when trying a Thai for the first time (Pad Thai and Tom Yum) both with prawns. The Pad Thai was excellent with a nice balanced flavour. The Tom Yum was pretty good but had a lot of very woody lemongrass in it which was moderately annoying to eat.

Food and service were as expected. It was good overall, and will look forward to trying the other dishes available.
