We had dinner at The Lounge by Frogmore and can say that this was hands down the most complete dining experience we have had in Hobart to date. From the moment we entered the restaurant we were warmly greeted by Nick who took our coats and escorted us to our window table that looked out over the marina.

We picked this restaurant for the beautiful view out front, but were eventually let down by the food. We ordered a wide selection – the oysters, the kingfish, the calamari, the venison, and the pork. The oysters and the kingfish were not bad. Although they were not amazing, we did enjoy them. Even though the calamari was a bit bland and was paired with ingredients that didn’t quite match, it was ok, average at best. Now, the real kicker was the main dishes…firstly, we waited nearly 1 HOUR (after the entrees were served) for the main dishes to finally come out. We were so worried that the kitchen had lost our order. When the main dishes finally arrived, we were utterly disappointed by their presentation and taste. The venison was so average, it tasted like street food. Not at all worth it for the 1-hour wait. The pork…no words…bland is even too nice a word to describe it. It tasted so bad that it was unpalatable. The pork dish only consisted of 3 pork belly, but it felt like an eternity to try to finish them because they were dry and not seasoned properly. The pickled cabbage was weird and did not pair well with the pork at all. The ingredients on the pork dish seemed like they were in a competition to see who would be the blandest of them all. This dish was almost $40 and we were extremely disappointed at the quality and taste. 3 out of 5 dishes we ordered somehow had the same garnish on them – some sort of microgreens; either the kitchen ran out of other types of garnishes, or they are simply not creative. We originally planned to order desserts, but after we had the main dishes, we had to just end the meal there to avoid further disappointment and waste of money and time. All in all, I would not recommend this place to others and would definitely not come again. For your price point, please do better.

Unfortunately for us I booked the Lounge when I wanted the cellar door. Website was a touch confusing. Having said that The Lounge was a great place and we sat at the bar. Coming to Tasmania and a major Scallop lover, there was nothing on the menu scallop related. We ordered the calamari but I found the squid bland flavourwise. The broth was a bit better. The Main meal was very good Lamb targine and very flavoursome and was left feeling that I wish we had more. The apple tart was superb as well. Now the downside was it took ages for each plate to come out. For the most part there was only one chef moving up and down that we could see, and boy was he slow. Almost an hour between dishes is pretty bad. Luckily we wernt in rush. Overall if the service was better it I would say its a 4 star, star deducted for the service time.

Oysters were not avaliable and have not been available for quite a while it seems based on other reviews I read on here, but they were for sale at the market earlier that day, and every other restaurant has them. Menu item: “Pork” is meant to come with crackling, but ours did not, and people at other tables did receive crackling. Menu item: “Corn” is extremely disappointing, I know this place is trying to do something different with this dish but it’s barely edible, I almost cut through the table, I saw someone on another table hacking into it as well. It tastes fine, but I think I speak for everyone: find a better way to do this dish, which makes the corn easier to eat. Has the person who designed this corn dish tried to eat it with a knife and fork?

One of the best and memorable fine dining experiences my partner and I ever had. The entrees, the mains and the desserts were divine. The ambience was cozy and classy, the hospitality from the staff were genuinely friendly and professional – overall it deserves more than 5 stars. Best place to book for special occasions.
