The Currant Shed has a long and proud history, standing tall whilst weathering over a century of different guises. The structure was originally built in the early 1900s for exactly what its name suggests – an undercover shed in which to prepare and dry currants before export back to the UK. Dried fruit was big business back in the day before refrigeration, and there are still several old sheds standing in the McLaren Flat/Blewitt Springs area today. The one now housing the restaurant was reputedly the largest in the district, and served its purpose well for the families that called this part of the world home. I took my parents and sister here for mum’s birthday whilst they were here visiting me from overseas. Having visited the Currant Shed previously and having a good experience last time, it was not hard for us to decide to come back here. The team at the Currant Shed did not disappoint. The waitress who served us was great, she was friendly and took her time explaining all the dishes. The food was exceptionally good as always! We opted for 3 course lunch as we had a 15months old toddler with us. All 4 of us enjoyed our food and had a great time! Thank you again for another great experience. We will definitely be back for sure

One of the best dining experiences in Australia without a doubt. This is confident cooking where the chef knows how to cook and season delicious food, provide a decent portion and plate beautifully. The options are very interesting with no ‘dud’ dishes. I love the addition of complimentary starters and a palate cleanser. Service is exceptional with friendly attentive staff who are efficient but carry out their work calmly and professionally. I very much like the ability to taste a wine before committing to a glass. Everything is done right here. This is my second time here, visiting from Melbourne. Keep it up.

Read so many good reviews of this restaurant and decided that it will be one of the two lunch venues for our two days stay in McLaren Vale. I took the 3 course with wine pairing. First time that I tried a Pinot Meunier (light red, high acidic) but it paired well with the richness of the braised goat. The Rare Muscat was delicious and paired very well with the rich and dense chocolate dessert. It was a good meal.

Had a wonderful three course meal with wine pairings for our anniversary. The Asian inspired dishes had wonderful flavours. Wasn’t sold on the Botrytis wine when it was served cold, but once it warmed up, it was nice.

As it was a friend’s birthday, we decided to go to the Current Shed for lunch. It was a bleak, wet day, but it was the warmth, friendliness and quality of the food that made the day. Our wait staff, Tarryn, looked after us extremely well. There was also no issue that I required a vegan menu. Several of the meals could be adapted, so there was no problem there. All 5 of us thought the food was outstanding. When it arrived at the table, it looked incredible. So beautifully presented on the plate. We are already planning another day there.
