Sushi Hotaru 2000

Social Profile:

Sushi Hotaru was established since 2011 in the heart of CBD. Being one of the most iconic and well-recognised sushi train brand in Sydney, the team strives to offer a clean and friendly environment for all patrons whom enjoy a fresh piece of salmon (…with a whole lot more). Maintaining it’s vision and identity as a friendly dining destination, the new brand and interior aims to strip back the clutter and transformed its original street scenery into a warm, modern and inviting venue. In keeping with it’s neutral tones, the ‘new’ Sushi Hotaru will revisit the idea of a casual Japanese street eatery, introducing new textures and feature lighting to bring emphasis to the company identity and Japanese culture.

Japanese dishes selected from the conveyor belt or ordered via touch screen in a narrow, sleek room.

Horrible cacophony of noise at 145pm Wednesday, tiny table for two was crowded with just 4 small plates, seats were uncomfortable, the vertical touch screen for ordering was a pain in my neck to contort myself to use it, and midway a guy came over and rudely announced they were turning it off – WT Actual F !?!?!? (Eventually worked out he meant the sushi train). Apart from that the food was fine.

quite pricey and gets busy in the evening (needs more seating), but fast and easy service. delicious sushi train and desserts. my favourite sushi is the orange flying fish roe and they really fill it up to the top, fresh and delicious.

Sushi train restaurant in The Galleries in Sydney CBD. Serving reasonable food and no frill service. This place can get busy, so expect to queue during lunc or dinner hours.

Prices have gone up 36% since we started coming here. They’ve also removed a number of items from the standard menu like scampi nigiri. It’s now charged at a much much higher price. They would also reward you for 5 star Google ratings.

The quality of sushi here is not what is it use to be. They have started cost saving by scrimping on rice and key ingredients. Sushi on the conveyor belt look sad and about to fall apart because there isn’t enough rice to hold it together or were just poorly made. The size is smaller and you can see the seaweed peeking through the rice on the side.

I recently visited after a very long time and disappointed a lot. Few years ago, this sushi train is so excellent in CBD but now quality is too low. Each sushi size is different and too sweet. Fresh prawn is not good. Pork katsu is terrible..
