Went for mid-week early dinner. Fabulous food! Haven’t found a decent chowder in Aus before, now have: fresh mussels, prawns, not too thick creamy broth. And for the non-seafood loving hubby the chicken with mushroom sauce was divine. Service impeccable! Only missing waterfront views, but if they’d be waterfront doubt we could afford going there

We made a booking and the spot where you’re asked to wait to be seated (as per the sign) was right in front of the waiters station so we kept getting shuffled aside and eventually waited outside because it was just an awkward spot to wait. Inside the restaurant was sweltering hot with no ventilation, they had one fan going at the front, no air con and we were seated deep inside. We asked if there were any tables available outside, first waitress outright said a flat no without even checking (there were 3 tables free, just needed to be cleared and cleaned). Asked a male waiter, and he said he would have a look and eventually seated us outside. We ordered 4 entrees and some drinks, didn’t end up ordering any mains to extend the dinner experience because we were put off by the service and atmosphere – other tables around us were experiencing service issues (like a lady chasing a request for ice that never came and her male companion had to physically walk inside to fetch the ice himself) and it was awkward to witness. We ordered a dozen natural oysters, the seafood chowder, grilled octopus and crab arancini – all tasted fine but the overall impression of the restaurant wasn’t great.

Delicious food with great portions. All dishes well balanced and presented. We could not get enough of the chowder and garlic prawns. Service was excellent with the server clearing our dishes and timing when our mains came out. It felt like dining at a Michelin restaurant.

Our experience here was mindblown! We enjoyed our food very much. Ordered the seafood platter, pumpkin ravioli, seafood chowder and 1/2 doz oysters. I can’t begin to even explain the way the play with their flavours. If you’re having doubts in dropping by to try Sandpipers, think no more! This is the place to go!

We have been to Sandpipers a few times over the years and just keep coming back! Easily the best restaurant in Nelson Bay. The food is always hot and fresh and comes out not long after ordering no matter how busy the place is. The scallops are to die for. Seafood is always fresh. Cocktails are decent, however only a few options. Staff are always friendly and available to help.

Fantastic food & fantastic service! The food was excellent quality & servings were very generous. The staff were amazing & fussed over my children which made me feel incredibly welcome & relaxed. I found the pricing to be reasonable considering the quality & sizing of the meals. Looking forward to returning on our next visit!
