The home-made pies at this place were sooooo delicious! I had the lamb with salad and took the beef and bunya nut pie home (frozen). I love that they incorporated the bunya but in the meals to try. They had 3 types of soup which I was impressed with too.

Sensational homemade Beef & Bunya Nut Pie! This is a winner! A perfect short crust pastry, golden and flakey, then bite inside to the hot creamy chunky filling. Yumm!

Good food at a reasonable price (given its in the middle of a national park.) A pie with a generous serve of chips will set you back about $15 (May 2023) – and a couple of pies include bunya nuts as one of the ingredients. There is lots of seating, but I expect it fills quickly during busy times, so bring a picnic blanket as a backup. There are a couple of bird feeding stations and wallabies wander the surrounding grass lawns.

Really loved the casual seating suited for groups small and large. The staff were very friendly in taking orders and delivered 8ppl worth of drinks and cakes without a glitch.

Had two lovely brunches here during our stay in the Bunya Mountains, both times we ordered the eggs Benny, both times were delicious! It was one of the best I’ve had. The coffee was very delicious, and it went down a treat whilst enjoying the views and local wildlife. Staff were warm and welcoming! Will gladly dine again when we return. ☺️

Pretty good cafe but looking a little dated and disjointed. The service for a single takeaway hot chocolate was quite slow (20 mins) – but they did say they were down a person, so they had set that expectation upfront which was good. I might try the tavern across the road for coffee next time, as they appeared to be open for breakfast too.

This is as good as honest country food and service gets. Given the prices of their food, it has to rate as one of the best value-for-money eating establishments in the area. The outside view is a panorama of Bunya rain forest with heaps of bird life and occasionally wallabies.

Yesterday 50 people arrived at “Poppies on the Hill” for lunch. I had organised this function in advance weeks before with Sue and Jenny. Whilst all the guests fed the Lorikeets, Galas, and Cockatoos a wonderful Smorgasbord was being laid out for us, and what a beautiful spread it was.

Poppies is a vibe. It’s a humble place to have your warm scone inside and then go out to feed the birds. The team work really hard and are super lovely. The food is always good.
