Mr. Wong not only serves amazing food but also has a fantastic ambiance and is a hidden gem for steamed dim sum and duck pancakes.

Mr. Wong, a traditional Chinese restaurant under the ownership of Merivale, boasts delightful cuisine and a captivating ambiance. The dim sums offered here stand out as some of the finest in Sydney. However, my overall experience is tinged with disappointment. My decision to not return stems from the considerable expense combined with the underwhelming quality of the live crab I ordered.

We celebrated a special birthday at Mr Wong’s and the food was amazing. I’m also glad they have changed the booking system as having to pay up front $100 pp for the reservation for 12 peple 2 months before a booking really wasn’t great and very expensive. That aside, the service was impeccable, the food was amazing and we all had a lovely time there.

Second time dining at Mr Wong, still lives up to its reputation. Went there for lunch time as walk ins to try and got a table and was greeted by our waiter Sarah right away and explained the menu to us. Sarah was excellent at looking after us the whole time through our lunch. There are plenty of varieties of dishes and each dish we had was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend will be returning to Mr Wong. Thank you again Sarah for your outstanding service

Good atmosphere, nicely decorated restaurant, with interesting bathrooms too, but the food is probably a bit overpriced for what it is. The dim sum platter was nice but the staff didn’t really tell us what each one was. The special fried rice was nice but not that “special” – I did however like the ratio of the rice to the veggies and meat, and that the rice wasn’t too dry or too moist. We got the crispy eggplant, which I really liked, and thought the sweet ish flavour was unique and texture was great! Finally, we got the kung pao chicken. I was expecting a larger serving, but I guess I should have known better. The dish itself was nice, but a larger serving would have been appreciated.

Went here as a visitor coming from New Zealand and left the place disappointed that we don’t have anything equivalent! The ambience and vibe was great, really felt trendy but not too pretentious. The service was excellent and not too over bearing, they even added an extra dumpling to share for 3 people since the dish only had 8. And the food itself, delicious and a fun twist on classic Cantonese food. The truffle menu was fun, but the classic menu had a few good hits. The sweet and sour pork hock and the pig ears were a standout! The overall experience was great and I understand why you need to book in advance!

We cannot wait to come back! All of our main courses were superb and the staff were great! My only negative was that we had a minimum spend of A$100 per person which meant we were a bit full and still A$80 off the total. We had a couple drinks (great!) and the deep fried ice-cream to make up the rest. The ice-cream was the only dish that I didn’t enjoy. I’d still definitely recommend giving Mr Wong a visit!

This restaurant is undeniably popular and always buzzing with customers. The bustling atmosphere reflects its reputation as a must-visit spot. However, be prepared for a 45-minute wait at the bar if you don’t have a booking before being seated. Yet, it’s worth every minute spent, as the dim sum dishes served are of exceptional quality and exude a premium touch. Each bite is a delightful explosion of flavors, showcasing the chef’s skill and attention to detail. Great wine list as well but the markups are quite high

For me, it is the best Chinese restaurant in Sydney—a great variety on the menu with all the classics. The food is perfectly cooked. The duck for the pancakes was juicy with crispy skin. I love the Crispy skin chicken, Maryland, Angus beef cubes
