The pilgrimage to the country town of Federal (around 40 minutes drive from Byron Bay) for lunch at Doma is well worth it for rustic, home-style Japanese dishes …

If you are anywhere near Federal NSW this is a must do place to eat. My husband claims this was the best steak sandwich in Au and I had a taste bud explosion with their Japanese sushi plate. Absolutely delicious. Great staff and chilled location.

The best meal I have had all year. An outstanding Japanese experience. I had been for breakfast a few times, and it was sensational so I was excited to try their dinner service but was completely blown away. I’m not one to usually leave a review, but this meal definitely called for it. Seating was in an outdoor enclosed area, which I was a little apprehensive of due to the cold, though there were so many heaters I hardly needed a jacket, it created the most cozy feel. The service was like no other, from the moment we were seated we were treated like family. All the waiters were very knowledgeable, warm and kind. We pretty much tried the whole menu and there isn’t one dish that we didn’t love. It wasn’t just food but art. Flavours we had never even considered. It was truely a special meal. My favourite was the sake shooter or the main tuna. It was literally the best fish i’ve ever had, completely melting like butter. I can’t wait to come back for any occasion, and truely couldn’t congratulate the team behind doma more. True hospitality and sensational food. This is what it means to be an outstanding restaurant.

Doma is hands down my favourite restaurant on the northern rivers. I come here every week for years and everything is always perfect.

Love the food and coffee! The doma breakfast is great and the French toast is the best I’ve ever had. The lunches are really interesting and delicious. Nice garden to relax with kids or dogs. The coffee is also great!

I love the Doma. OMG! The food is out of this world. The flavours, tastes and textures you are never going to manage to make yourself at home. Service is exceptional and the atmosphere is cool, comfortable and relaxed. Try the eggplant. Utterly divine.

The expectation when visiting an unknown restaurant/Cafe will always be stuck in the middle ground. Everything from the front of house to the chefs in the back. Nothing on any given day will be the same.

A long drive from Byron Bay to have lunch. Got there at 2pm and lunch service was closed but we were accommodated by chef with some delish Japanese salads and freshest sushis. The place was an old Federal building which was historical to the area. Having Japanese food at this scenic iconic Australian building was quite refreshingly interesting. It was so unexpected as we thought we’d be having some Aussie tucker like pies and sausage.

Had a beautiful dinner last night. The Team were lovely and welcoming and did all they could to make us welcome and comfortable. We didn’t make a reservation but they accommodated us on the picnic tables outside but brought a heater and blankets to keep us warm. Food was amazing and used lots of local produce and foraged greens which were delicious. Would highly recommend!

I would like to say that this cafe is a hidden gem, but it is not, it is very popular and busy.
