This Ethiopian restaurant is one of my favourite restaurants in melbourne, i have been here quiet a few times, my partner also loved the experience and the food! I love the selection for one. I have had the chicken wat quiet a few times. I love the goat wat and I like the lamb, wat. I love all the lentil based curries. I quiet like Ted the green veggies it’s a little salty but when you having it with other dishes works really well. It is served with a late bred that’s fermented. You also get a digestive tea. It’s one of the best teas I have ever had! I tried the vegan cake. It’s a little wet however it’s delicious it’s quiet cinnamon/ sugary but nice the yoghurt brake it up.

Had an absolutely amazing lunch, the sample plate is such a good idea and way to try different dishes, the owner was truely lovely. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of vegan and vegetarian options. A must go if you’re in the area.

I was just passing through town for literally 5 minutes and quickly ran in to see if they had some vego food. The lovely man at the front went back, cooked me up a little delicious curry with some flat bread and gave me a small tea. It was so tasty, I can’t wait to come back to Ballarat in the future and have a full meal here.

Merkama is an amazing hidden gem in Ballarat. I stopped by for lunch with my partner and we were greeted with lovely service and complimentary tea (which was super delicious). We ordered the vegan tasting plate, which was super cheap ($22.50 per person) considering it came with 8 dishes and Ethiopian flat bread each. The owner was lovely and the food came quickly, this is definitely the place to go in Ballarat, especially if you are vegan.
